Juggling Multiple Kids and Loving It
We just began our fourth year of homeschooling. I have a second grader, a kindergartener, and a 3.5-year-old. By far, the biggest challenge is schooling multiple kids at the same time. It takes tremendous brain power and energy to shuffle both of their school loads—teaching them to read, teaching math, refreshing myself in history and science so I can teach it well, and teaching them to love others… while also chasing my 3-year-old. 🙂
A lot of days are really fun, and a lot of days are exceptionally crazy. But being able to be with my kids outweighs it all. Watching their faces light up when things “click” bears so much reward. I’d miss it if they were at school.
Getting to watch the sibling bond they’re able to create and foster is so worth it. Getting to leave in the middle of the week to field trip it to the beach is so worth it. Knowing I am the one who taught them to read and love books is so worth it. We feel so blessed that this is something we *get* to do.

Finding Structure in Freedom
For our family, the most challenging aspect of homeschooling has been maintaining a consistent schedule. It’s difficult to establish a structured routine when there are no external factors, such as school bells, to dictate the day.
However, the rewards of homeschooling have far outweighed this challenge. Our children have the freedom to explore their interests and learn at their own pace. They have developed a deep love for learning and have the opportunity to pursue their passions in-depth. Additionally, homeschooling has allowed us to create a strong bond as a family and foster a supportive and nurturing environment for our children’s education.

Balancing Parenting with Education
The most challenging aspect of homeschooling has been balancing the roles of parent and educator. It’s crucial to strike a balance between maintaining authority as a teacher while fostering a nurturing home environment.
The rewards, however, have been substantial, including personalized learning experiences and flexible schedules that allow for more family bonding and the opportunity to instill our values and life skills directly into our children’s education.
